Route & Logistics
This trail run is one of the most popular and exciting events on our race calendar. Held on or around Mothering Sunday in May every year, the run kicks off on Church Street in the historic centre of Stellenbosch. Runners warm up with an easy 3km through the sleeping town’s streets before they meet their first challenge of the day in Botmaskop. In only 4km, they will ascend a steep and rugged 450 metre summit where they will be rewarded with some of the most breath taking views Stellenbosch has to offer. Then runners can enjoy the stunning scenery and moderately technical terrain as they descend down Skyfall towards Bartinney.
On reaching Bartinney at the 12km point, race participants may decide to cross the finish line for the Bartinney Dash OR put themselves to the ultimate test and continue along the full course to complete the Bartinney Extreme Challenge. This 24km route will guide runners from Bartinney into the Banhoek conservancy where they will be treated to some sensational single track. There are a few more ascents to be tackled in the 24km race. On reaching the heart of Banhoek, our racers will be greeted by the second major ascent of the day - 150 metres in 1 km – and again approaching the finish, their last 150m climb is made over just 1.4km.
